Welcome to Awaji Island | ![]() |
We are pleased to announce that the 10th ACES International Workshop will be held at Hotel & Resorts Minamiawaji, Awaji Island, Japan from September 25 to September 28, 2018. Awaji Island is a charming island located 40 km southwest of Kobe. The ACES (ACES) (APEC Cooperation for Earthquake Science) is a multi-lateral grand challenge science research cooperation of APEC. The project is supported by Australia, China, Japan, and USA (core members) as well as Canada, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand, and South Korea (members). It involves leading international earthquake science research groups. ACES aims to develop realistic simulation models, thus providing a "virtual laboratory" to probe earthquake behavior and to access its potential hazards. This capability will offer a new opportunity to gain an improved understanding of the earthquake process and related phenomena, and of earthquake science in general. In this workshop we will focus on the earthquake physics including strain accumulation, earthquake nucleation and propagation, and redistribution of stress and healing. The workshop generally consists of eight plenary scientific sessions as follows.Session 1: Stress accumulation and earthquake preparation |
